In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful

All praises are for Allah (subhana wa ta’ala), the most Compassionate, the most Forgiving.

Salutations and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad (salallaahu alaihi wasallam), his family, and companions.

Oh Allah, I submit myself to You.

Oh Allah, I realize that parenting a child is a very difficult task and I turn to You in humility for Your help.

Oh Allah, I implore You for Your wisdom and guidance.

Oh Allah, I know that our children are an amaana (a trust) from You, to care for and to raise in a manner that is pleasing to You.

Oh Allah, help me do that in the best way.

Oh Allah, teach me how to love in a way that You would have me love.

Oh Allah, help me where I need to be healed, improved, nurtured, and made whole.

Oh Allah, help me walk in righteousness and integrity so that You may always be pleased with me.

Oh Allah, allow me to be a God-fearing role model with all the communication, teaching, and nurturing skills that I may need.

Oh Allah, You know what our children need. Help and guide us in praying for our children.

Oh Allah, put a hedge of safety around our children. Protect their bodies, minds, and souls from any kind of evil and harm.

Oh Allah, protect them from accidents, diseases, injuries, disorders, and any other physical, mental, or spiritual afflictions and abuse.

Oh Allah, keep our children free from any addictions and vices.

Oh Allah, draw them close to You for protection from every ill and evil influence of our society, whether it’s apparent to us or not.

Oh Allah, grant them the best of company as their friends — people who will inspire them to love and worship and obey You.

Oh Allah, grant our children hidaaya (guidance) and hearts that love to obey You.

Oh Allah, shine Your light on any secret or unseen rebellion in their hearts and destroy it before it takes root.

Oh Allah, guide them away from any pride, selfishness, jealousy, hypocrisy, malice, and greed and make them uncomfortable with sins.

Oh Allah, don’t allow my children to be lazy, stingy, or slothful. Let them do everything in life with ihsaan (the highest level of beautiful excellence).

Oh Allah, penetrate their hearts with Your love and reverence today and always.

Oh Allah, make apparent to them the truth in any situation and let them not be misled by falsehood.

Oh Allah, grant our children the ability to make clear decisions and let them always be attracted to good things that are pure, noble, true, and just.

Oh Allah, guide them in making choices that please You.

Oh Allah, help them to taste the sweetness of walking with a humble spirit in obedience and submission to You.

Oh Allah, grant them the wisdom to choose their words carefully and bless them with generous and caring spirits.

Oh Allah, let them never stray from the path of deen (religion) and give them futures filled with Your best promises.

Oh Allah, always keep our children cleansed and pure from evil and shaytaan (Satan).

Oh Allah, keep them steadfast in establishing salaah (prayer) and help them to revere the Glorious Qur’an as Your Word and Law and to read it with understanding daily. Let it be their source of light and guidance.

Oh Allah, let our daughters love wearing hijab (the headscarf) and our sons the dress of a humble Muslim.

Oh Allah, let their dress be a representation of their imaan (faith) and of their love and respect for Your commands.

Oh Allah, lead them to a position where they rely truly on Your power alone and fear You in the open and in secret.

Oh Allah, make them so strong in their deen that they never encounter doubt.

Oh Allah, do not allow any negativity, cynicism, or pessimism in our children’s lives. Let them always have a positive, hopeful, and optimistic attitude towards You and Your Will.

Oh Allah, guide our children in honoring and obeying You, Your Rasool/Messenger (peace be upon him), and us as parents (when we are commanding that which is pleasing to You).

Oh Allah, make them the coolness of our eyes.

Oh Allah, fill our children with compassion and caring that will overflow to each member of our family.

Oh Allah, let patience and mercy and love towards the elderly enter their hearts.

Oh Allah, grant them piety.

Oh Allah, protect them from ’ayn/nazar/evil eye (malicious jealousy).

Oh Allah, help them love, value, appreciate, and respect one another with good communication between them always.

Oh Allah, drive out any division between our children and bring them healing.

Oh Allah, let there be no strain, breach, misunderstanding, arguing, fighting, or severing of ties.

Oh Allah, allow them to one day marry righteous, God-fearing, kind, hard-working, intelligent, beautiful, healthy, fertile spouses of the opposite gender who get along with and respect and love and genuinely enjoy every member of our family and who lead our children (i.e. their spouses) even closer to You and Jannat ul Firdaus (the Highest Station of Paradise).

Oh Allah, allow them to one day be the best spouses and the best additions to their in-laws’ families.

Oh Allah, please grant me the company of pious friends, relatives, extended community members, and teachers who will be inspirational role models for my children and will help me raise them to be the best of believers.

Oh Allah, please don’t let me become self-satisfied and arrogant in my parenting, but please don’t humble me or shame me through my children’s misdeeds either. Please let me always give credit for their good character to You and please don’t ever let me stop praying for them.

Oh Allah, please don’t let my children be “late” in meeting any of life’s milestones that are expected of them.

Oh Allah, please grant my children a healthy posture, complexion, height, and weight — one that earns them respect and admiration and never pity, concern, or disdain. Let them be seen as physically beautiful by anyone who looks at them, the way Your Prophets and Messengers were always the most beautiful and the most pleasing to the eye of anyone who laid eyes on them (peace and blessings be upon them all).

Oh Allah, please don’t ever let my children question, be confused about, or be dissatisfied with how You have physically created them.

Oh Allah, protect my children from debt. Make them givers and not takers. Allow them to benefit the ummah (global community of Muslims) with their earnings.

Oh Allah, grant my children noble professions with halal (permissible) incomes that give them respect and dignity in Your Eyes and in the eyes of their fellow human beings. Please let them always enjoy what they do; let them have a passion for their work and enthusiasm in their careers.

Oh Allah, grant them worldly comfort so that my children can come to You through the Door of Gratitude and so that they are not forced to come to You through the Door of Patience. Please let them always be grateful…and patient.

Oh Allah, please let our children earn Your Pleasure by dutifully and happily serving and honoring and taking care of us, but please don’t let us ever become burdens on them. Please don’t let us be dependent on anyone but You. Please don’t let us ever become an inconvenience or a hardship in any of our children’s lives, but please do not let them ever hesitate to do their duties by us either. Please let us all be sources of comfort and joy and ease for one another.

Oh Allah, please allow my children to feel remorse, to self-reflect, and to repent whenever they err against You, against us, or against anyone else. Accept their tawbah (repentance), and allow us to always forgive them as well. Please don’t let anyone whom You love to ever be displeased with them.

Oh Allah, please let our children forgive us for any and all mistakes we made – or will make – while parenting them. Let them look at our shortcomings and flaws with mercy, understanding, compassion, patience, and generosity. Allow them to always pray for us and for our forgiveness. Please let our children pray for all of our ancestors, and let all of our descendants always pray for us…long after we have left this realm.

Oh Allah, bless my children with long, happy, healthy, imaan-filled lives in the company of their loved ones. Let them end their lives with the shahadah (testimony of faith) on their lips, in their hearts, and in their minds. Let them leave behind pious Muslim progeny who pray for them and for us. Please let my descendants be Muslim until the end of time. Grant my children a husn-al-khaatima (a beautiful ending).

Oh Allah, grant us parents close, loving, happy, and fulfilling relationships with our children for all the days of our lives, and reunite us with them one day in Jannat ul Firdaus in the company of our Beloved Prophet, upon whom be peace.

آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ (Amen, O Lord of the Worlds)

Hina Khan-Mukhtar sincerely requests that you end these supplications with a prayer of blessing, protection, and acceptance for her, her parents, her husband, her three sons, her daughter-in-law, her three siblings and their families, her in-laws, and for the original anonymous author who began compiling some of these prayers which HKM then edited and expanded. JazakAllahu khayr (may Allah bless you with good)!
